GRAPHIC ARTS - Greeting Cards

8/17/2022

What I know about graphic arts you could write on a thumbnail. But that wouldn’t stop me from trying to create some, especially since I am always encouraging others to expand their creative boundaries.

In July 2021 I stayed with Jeremy and Noreen when I was on a road trip to donate 2,000 lantern slides to the UofM.  These lantern slides were created by George R. Swain who with his wife Edith Louise Swain created Kamp Kairphree in my community in 1922.  They, and it, are the subjects of my second book to be published in….who knows when.

Jer took me to Frame Works Plymouth (“Frames, Art, Gifts, and More” at 833 Penniman Ave.) where I found the coolest, handmade, greeting cards.  They were created by Lisa Wight of Wight Works Studio ( https://www.facebook.com/Wight-Works-Studio-1498615177116497/).  As do many people in similar situations, I said to myself, “Wow, cool!  I could try to do that!”

My preliminary efforts have been appreciated and complimented.  Beginning in July 2021 and continuing to last week, I have created seven greeting cards.   Using as a guide the composite image (below) of the four cards I bought at Frame Works Plymouth it has been challenging and fun!  And it has complemented the “impersonality” of giving gift certificates for holiday celebrations.  I have edited the images of some cards to assure the confidentiality of friends.
